About Us
In 1960 Larry Dworzynski leased a Standard Oil service station in Schaumburg, IL (population 986). In the 1980's Standard Oil Co. changed to Amoco (American Oil Co). Larry's son, Dan, at age 31, took over the business in 1990, a short time after his father became ill. In 1997, Amoco approached Dan and the Village of Schaumburg to discuss ending the lease as a service station and converting the business into a mini-mart. Knowing the reputation of the business, the strong local customer base and Dan's opposition to the idea, Schaumburg was not going to allow Amoco to eliminate the service business and turn it into a mini mart. So in 1998, Dan bought the business from Amoco, acquired the land from a private owner, changed the brand of the franchise and became the owner of Larry and Dan's Marathon Service Station. Dan chose to become a Marathon station because Marathon is an American Company. In honor of Dan's father, he kept his father's name in the business.
Larry and Dan's Marathon won “Schaumburg Business of the Month” in 2000, presented by the Mayor of Schaumburg. The station was a big contributor to the “Traveling Memorial Wall” displayed at Alexian Field in May 2008.
